Early Sunday morning my dear, Dear Father-in-law lost his battle with cancer and Parkinson’s disease. Our hearts ache with the loss as we continue our journeys forward without him.
Being an in-law, I don’t feel qualified to begin listing all his inspiring characteristics for fear that I would leave out things that his children would find very important. Instead, to know the kind of person Dear Father-in-law was, I look to his children, each of them is a continuing testimony for their Dad.
The five amazing people he raised to adulthood work hard, care for their neighbors, reach out to people in need, defend each other and love deeply; characteristics that they witnessed intimately through the nurturing hand of their Father.
We are hurting. We smile while we cry and our heads bend low with the weight of grief. Our remembering gives us comfort.
“But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory,
and the lifter of my head.”
